What is OUR REAL PROJECT?

When I was in middle school, I watched a basketball game for the first time and posted about my excitement on my Instagram. An hour later I had a comment from a boy in my class asking if I even knew the rules of basketball. I deleted the post immediately and learned a life lesson: I needed to be an expert before claiming to like what the boys liked.

Imagine my hesitation when 10 years later I picked up an interest in motorsport, a historically inaccessible and male-centric sport. I was quiet about it at first, only sharing my new passion for motorsport with my closest girlfriends. I did not want to be quizzed on DRS or be told that the root of my passion was only because I “find the drivers hot.”

After cautiously dipping my toes in the motorsport community, I began to wonder why I didn’t see a single woman behind the wheel. My TikTok algorithm quickly picked up on my query and led me to a rapidly growing sub-community: women in motorsport. And with that, I was welcomed into a new era of female empowerment where women welcome, teach, defend, and inspire other women who share the same love for Formula 1.

It’s no secret that the power of female consumers is growing. Companies and organizations are waking up to the fact that women have just as much(arguably more) influence as men. Taylor Swift’s ticket sales, the Barbie movie phenomenon, and the F1 Academy’s livestream debut proved to the world just how powerful catering to women can be, especially in male-dominated industries.

Female fans deserve thoughtful, high-quality products that are made with their needs in mindAt GP, our industry is motorsport fashion and our work is always motivated and informed by empowerment, or what we call, "Our Real Project.” Our Real Project is why we donate 3% of all sales to support women in motorsport.

As we work toward our brand launch, we plan on using this blog as a way to document the building blocks of our brand in longform and highlight in tandem the values and intention behind our work. We’ll cover everything from our founding story to the various challenges of running a women-owned brand. And, on occasion, share tips for the women in the motorsport community.

Grandstand launches in early October. Thanks for reading, I can’t wait to share what we’re up to!
